IT Automation refers to the tools and practices used to automate tasks, batch processes and workflows. But beyond simply reducing costs and improving quality, this approach aims to enhance agility.
Faster and better! These are the twin goals of IT Automation. To meet these challenges, IT automation tools often include a graphical user interface, a task scheduler and one or more scripts, enabling users to easily plan the workflows to be processed.
Automation offers a number of advantages. Firstly, it reduces labor requirements (operating costs) and provides the flexibility needed for the continuous evolution of IT. By reducing the time spent on repetitive tasks, the risk of error is also minimized. Automation also prevents unauthorized modifications.
But until now, IT Automation has been limited to fragmented processes. Today, companies are starting (or thinking about) a systematic approach. This means leveraging automation beyond mere cost reduction and quality improvement to implement agile and scalable digital implementations across the enterprise.
AI-enhanced IT Automation
According to Gartner, increased AI automation is set to play an important role in IT operations and application performance management. To better leverage the benefits of increased AI automation, the analyst firm suggests that organizations establish a center of excellence, and in particular train their employees in data science.
In order to obtain actionable information from their large volumes of data, organizations will increasingly use automation enhanced by artificial intelligence.
However, this enthusiasm for automation should not lead companies to rush into action. They must always ensure that automation is considered at the outset of a new process, and not as an afterthought.
As with anything new, adoption will also take time. Companies must first become aware of emerging technologies. Understand how they can take advantage of them, and how to do all this with their budgets (which are not unlimited), their skills (which may need to be expanded) and their culture (which needs to evolve).
